Let’s face it, most of us are guilty. When the temperature dips to bone-numbing temperatures, we like to warm up our vehicles before hopping in. his practice puts law enforcement on edge. For starters, it’s illegal in Colorado to leave a car running unattended. While police officers probably won’t cite residents for doing it, they warn that a running vehicle is a green light for thieves to snatch a car.

Colorado grand jury indicts 4 suspects in meth, stolen car ring

Vehicle theft increasing in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police reported a decrease in stolen vehicles last month but the crime remains the city’s fastest-growing, according to Chief Pete Carey. Carey said vehicle theft has increased 20 percent this year.  In January, the Police Department created a five man unit dedicated to the crime.  The unit includes three detectives, a sergeant and an investigator with the Colorado State Patrol.

Hundreds of stolen goods found in a storage unit are linked to nearly 60 crimes in the Denver metro area since September. Police are now trying to reunite the stolen items with their rightful owners. The East Metro Auto Theft Team helped uncover the stolen goods as part of an investigation that started in October.

Colorado State Patrol troopers recovered multiple guns and drugs after a car chase that started in Broomfield on Friday afternoon. The chase started near West 144th Avenue and Zuni Street when troopers tried to stop a stolen Jeep driven by a suspect who had allegedly just committed a burglary in Thornton, according to a news release from the state patrol.
